An intraoral x-ray is a type of dental x-ray where the small x-ray film or sensor is placed inside the mouth to capture detailed images of the teeth, their roots, and the surrounding bone. It is the most common form of dental x-ray and provides high-resolution images that help dentists detect cavities, tooth decay, bone loss, infections, and other abnormalities not visible during a regular dental exam. Intraoral x-rays can include bite-wing and periapical types, which focus on different areas or aspects of the teeth and their supporting structures.
